I wish I could give this book 10 stars. It is the BEST book on Christian Unschooling (and Unschooling in general) I've ever read. Julie is so honest about her own struggles and fears that you almost feel as though you are talking with her over a cup of coffee. She has gleaned the best information about early leaning from Raymond and Dorothy Moore, David Elkins, and others and woven it throughout this book. I have read so many books and articles about homeschooling and unschooling but Julie's is the one I would recommend most because she gets to the heart of the matter and gives wonderful practical advice about guiding our children along their particular learning paths. I would love to have Julie as a neighbor. As I was reading this book I thought, "I've finally found someone who thinks like I do! I wish I could know her personally." I really can't recommend this book enough. Thank you Julie for putting out such a thoughtful and helpful book on Christian Unschooling!Product details

I was privileged to read a review copy of Julie's book, and found it a great resource for Christian homeschoolers who are looking for another way to approach learning other than the traditional schooling model. She does a great job of dispelling the myth that unschooling is antithetical to Christianity, and makes a good case for how the philosophy is actually rooted in Biblical truths.
She shows how her four children, who are all wonderfully unique, each showed her how they needed to learn best. By listening to their needs and trusting in God, she learned how to transform their home into a place of joy and discovery.
In the second half of the book, my favorite section, Julie provides practical advice for guiding very young children through age 12 on their learning paths. She gives great ideas on how to start unschooling and answers some frequently asked questions. She also lists some great resources and tools to help unschooling families on their journey.

I am not highly religious but I liked the premise behind this book. I was almost two years younger then my peers growing up but education came very easily to me and I was bored most my academic career. When I got to college I struggled a bit because I did not know some basic things like how to study or work with teams (I was in a lot of accelerated course and due to the lack of accelerated students group work hardly ever occurred and I had to rely solely on myself). Knowing all this about my own education I do not want my kids to be faced with the same problems. This book brought up many ideas for educating children that do not involve standardized testing and school methods that I can apply with my children. I probably will not have the ability to just home school my children but I can help them during the times I am around to learn in different ways. In this book the author mentions simple things such as math can be taught by baking, cutting ingredients down for smaller portions or expanding them for large parties.
